It’s a new launch day, and this time I am chomping at the bit to show you the end result! Today I want to bring you behind-the-scenes of the work I did for the branding & website for storyteller Cassandra and her business, The Quirky Pineapple Studio.

I’m very passionate about this project, and feel so very close to Cassandra, because she reminds me of when I began this freelancing adventure myself. She has the same passion, and the same fears… And this is probably why I feel so honoured to have helped her build a visual identity for her business of dreams.

When she firstly got in touch, her website was a just a simple blog. A blog she felt extremely passionate about, and a space she was running from quite some time with nice results. She planned to keep it active, but also finally bring her idea of a freelance business to life. She wanted a space that could contain all of that: her blog and perfectly useful posts about travelling, feminism and creating a community, while also starting to offer services for other bloggers and female entrepreneurs, helping them with their online contents, from copywriting to imagery.

All of this, embracing and communicating her quirky, bold and communicative spirit

Cassandra was already running a space online when we started. Her blog already had a strong identity, but she felt like she needed a proper comprehensive brand face to start running her business of dreams. The fact that she was already blogging helped her identify a specific audience and ideal clientele to talk to. Her client of dreams was a female blogger or entrepreneur, interested into travelling, learning new skills, finding a purpose, entrepreneurship and social issues.

She wanted her brand to be warm and welcoming while also communicating a strong, bold personality. She needed a visual identity that communicated a genuine and brave spirit. When I asked her to pick three adjectives to describe her brand, she answered:

  • Quirky
  • Encouraging
  • Welcoming

As I knew she was planning to work with a photographer for the brand’s and website’s imagery, I offered to prepare a mini brand board to send over to her photographer and help us all coordinate the brand and images as much as possible.

Firstly we worked at an inspiration board for the project:

And from there we were able to put together a colour palette for her new brand, including all the quirky fun colours she liked from the board, a touch of grey to balance things out, and a hint of dark purple to inject a professional character to her brand. We had all the elements we needed to star, and a precise idea of her brand’s values for the mini brand board.

I of course wanted to include some pineapples in the design! They had to be fun and quirky, different and unique in a way. Cassandra was attracted by a few abstract patterns from the inspiration board, and this helped me design some interesting and very casual pineapple illustrations for her brand board:

The illustrations were perfect to turn into fun and interesting patterns:

And, of course, to be included in her logo design. Cassandra wanted her brand to communicate both a quirky and fun personality, but also her capabilities and professionalism. With this in mind I created a few different logo concepts:

She loved the idea of involving a geometric shape in the logo design, to bring in the professional and precise aspect of her business! The logo she picked then evolved into what it is now the final and definitive version and its variations:

Although I can’t take any credits for the amazing photography of her website, I love how we were able to coordinate all the sides of this project, and bring in the colour palette of The Quirky Pineapple Studio also in her brand photography.

Ahh the joy of creating a complete, rich website full of personality! The website for storyteller Cassandra took a little longer than expected to be fully coded. But then, all things with great personality and all the right details need some more time and effort.

I designed an homepage that helped her introduce herself and her services to the right kind of audience. Then we created a space for all her services, a portfolio to display her work, and a blog section for her to keep blogging as usual, but with a focus on her new categories.

I’m so chuffed with the result! This website is something I’m so proud of and couldn’t wait any longer to show you!

We completed the design process with three coordinated marketing materials for her brand. She needed a template for her newsletter that went hand in hand with her new web design, and communicated her brand values as well.

Then I had so much fun designing some quirky and colourful business cards and thank you cards for her clients, with her beautiful pineapple patterns!

I couldn’t be happier with the result! A website and brand with such a strong personality requires a great attention to details, meaning time and proper patience (coding is fun, but can be challenging). But I’m sure you can see the hard work it went on behind-the-scenes, and I hope it’ll make The Quirky Pineapple Studio even stronger as a brand.

Make sure you pop by her website and have fun discovering every little corner of it!
